  1. That's great, but check out this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cktHPsJ6IgY
This is from Siskiyou Violins' 2009 concert at the Ginger Rogers Craterian Theatre. This group of talented all violin students has an amazing story. This was a 3 hour concert, featuring two ensembles of Juniors and Advanced students (age 3 to college age), over 60 students in all. Newly organized as an official nonprofit group, they were approved for 501(c)(3) status in just 6 weeks, meaning all donations are tax deductible. The Artistic Director, Faina Podolnaya, from Russia, was awarded a medal for Best Violin Teacher in the entire Soviet Union and taught at the most prestigious school for gifted students in Kazakhstan. Then some political uprising happened... her violin was smashed. She came to America 10 years ago with nothing, and began teaching students in Ashland, OR. In 2005, she took a group of these students to perform at the New York Orchestra festival held at world famous Carnegie Hall, where they were awarded a Gold Medal. Again in 2008, they were invited to perform at the Walt Disney Concert Hall in Los Angeles - considered one of the most acoustically superior theatres in the world today. Once more they won the Gold Medal. Now these kids are trying to raise money for the 2010 International Youth Music Festival to be held in Budapest in June, where they would perform 5 concerts, be able to participate in advanced music workshops, tour the home of the famous composer Mozart, and more. This trip would be a fantastic opportunity for these kids, and their story is truly inspiring. I would seriously like to see them invited to play at a Zrii convention or Rising Star Academy! To learn more about Siskiyou Violins please visit www.siskiyouviolins.org. The group is also seeking partners and corporate sponsors. Donations of $5, $10, or any amount are much needed and may be sent to Siskiyou Violins, PO Box 4546, Medford, OR 97501. It would be wonderful to have these talented young people perform at a Zrii event! Contact info@siskiyouviolins.org
